Job Details

Preet Kaur Gill MP, Member of Parliament for Birmingham Edgbaston, is looking for a personal assistant to join her team in Westminster. This is a part time role (four days a week).

Candidates should be highly literate and personable with a good telephone manner. They should be extremely well organised with a strong attention to detail, and be able to act independently.

The personal assistant will be working as part of a close-knit team in the Westminster office so must have excellent interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills.

Candidates must be able to show a commitment to the aims and values of the Labour Party.

Prior experience of working as a personal assistant is desirable but not essential.

Key responsibilities

  • Inbox and Diary Management
  • Assisting with arrangements for events (non-political)
  • Handling administrative arrangements for meetings with members of the public/MP surgeries
  • Liaise with external suppliers when required regarding office suppliers
  • Opening and dispatching mail
  • Photocopying, filing, record-keeping and typing correspondence
  • Responding to enquiries by telephone and email, passing on queries to other team members/MP as appropriateMaintaining databases
  • Assisting with other administrative tasks as and when necessary
  • Setting up systems and databases

Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
