Last week, the Government announced the Provisional Local Government Finance Settlement for 2019/20.
Responding to the announcement, Preet Kaur Gill MP, and a Vice-President of the Local Government Association, said:
"Despite its promises, the provisional funding announced last week by the government is a massive disappointment for local councils still set to face an overall funding gap of £3.2 billion next year. The government clearly has no genuine interest in supporting local councils to provide individuals and communities with vital services.
Councils need assurances that in the medium and long term there will be adequate money for them to provide sustainable services necessary for residents to flourish. Instead, by relying on council tax revenues to plug funding gaps, the government has set out to exacerbate inequality between the richest and poorest members of our society, hitting hardest those in most desperate need."
