Preet Kaur Gill MP has today launched a petition calling on Birmingham City Council to introduce a one way system along Nursery Road in Harborne to ease congestion, stop cars from mounting the pavement and make the road safer for the community.
The petition launch follows Preet's meeting with Nursery Road residents and the local police team last week who all have serious concerns about the parking problems on the road and the dangerous driving this is causing for other road users and pedestrians.
The Council has also proposed parking restrictions on roads close to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, but residents are concerned that this will simply push people to park on roads further out, like Nursery Road, Kingscote Road and Yateley Road. That's why Preet is working closely with local residents to call on the Council to include these roads in their proposals for parking restrictions and resident permit schemes.
"It was great to meet with residents last week to hear their concerns and see the problems that inconsiderate parking and dangerous driving are causing locally.
"Residents and the local police team agree that introducing a one way system would help ease congestion and make the roads safer for the community.
"That's why I am urging residents to join me in calling on Birmingham City Council to bring in this much needed safety measure."
